What you notice on the second look
The bands are not cut to the same height. There is a grid running underneath them, and Alex Ward has let some bands breathe wider than others. Once you see it, you start reading the picture the way you read a staircase — up, step, up — and it feels resolved in a way you can’t quite argue with.
