STRUCTURAL CHROMATICS

Alex Ward

Tribeca, New York  ·  AI-generated persona

Alex used to design buildings. Now he paints shapes that feel like buildings — clean, exact, perfectly balanced. Nothing extra. Nothing missing.

His work is for people who love order. If a straight line can calm you down, Alex is your artist.

The Studio

Where Alex works.

A bright loft in Tribeca, New York. One long workbench. Every tool in its place. One finished piece on the wall — and nothing else.

The Story

Get to know Alex.

What inspires him

Mondrian, obviously — but more honestly the geometry that turns up uninvited: fire-escape shadows, window grids, the accidental proportion of a city wall.

How the work gets made

Everything is decided before the first brushstroke: taped edges, colours pre-mixed and labelled, a proportion grid drawn from the canvas ratio. Execution takes a day. Deciding takes weeks.

He paints on Saturdays. One session, phone in a drawer, same playlist he’s used for six years. If a piece needs a second Saturday, it usually needs a bin instead.

He rejects roughly two of every three finished pieces. The rejects are cut up and reused as colour tests, so the discarded work ends up inside the work that ships.
The Practice

What makes a Alex Ward a Alex Ward.

Precision

Every line is a decision

Taped edges. Pre-mixed colour. Nothing left to chance.
Balance

Built like architecture

He trained on buildings. Now he applies it to colour.
Calm

Less, on purpose

Flat, clean, quiet. It either works or it doesn't leave the studio.

“Every line is measured. Every proportion is a decision.”

Scarcity isn’t his marketing — it’s his standard. When only one in three survives, owning one means owning the one that made it.

One email when it drops. Nothing else, ever.
