The roses go first. Plum, heavy, spilling forward out of the black like someone knocked the vase and walked off.
Then you notice the hand. Reaching in from the edge, stopped halfway, never arriving.
Now look at the dark between the petals
The shadows and the folds of velvet curve into a crescent moon. Nothing is painted onto the cloth to make it. It is built only from the gaps — the places Carmen left alone. Ruby, one of the critics who scored it, said the crescent “cleverly rewards the observer’s curiosity.” The average came in at 8.33.
That is how Carmen Delacroix works. Dusk light, every time, and a small element hidden for the second look — the detail you find after the picture has been up a week. Her line: I paint the half-remembered, not the imagined. There is a difference.
What it actually does in your house
Kids find the moon first. Adults stare, give up, then spot it while reaching for their coffee. You get to be the one who says “have you found it yet” and then says nothing else. A guest will ask where it came from, and you will enjoy answering.
The part where the numbers arrive
Here is a rule you can use on any wall: measure the furniture underneath, then go about two-thirds of that width. Over a sideboard, that is usually the 24×18 in (61×46 cm) — it comes preselected — at $49. The 16×12 in (41×30 cm) is $29 for a smaller spot, and the 32×24 in (81×61 cm) is $69 if the wall is wide and empty.
Archival matte paper with pigment inks, smooth and non-reflective, so a window opposite gives you roses back instead of your own ceiling light. Printed edge to edge with no white border, so it fills any frame you already own — or pin it up bare, it reads fine that way. It arrives rolled in a tube. Made to order, up to ten business days plus delivery, and shipping is free in the continental US. The price you see is the price.
Who should skip it
It is a high quality print of a digital artwork, not an original, and it is not restful. If you want a picture that explains itself at a glance, this one will annoy you.
If it doesn’t, take it home. Or go see what else Carmen has hidden — follow her and you’ll spot the next one before anyone tells you where to look.
One is a piece. Two is a set. Three is a collection.
Almost nobody stops at one. A second work by the same hand turns a wall into a pairing. A third turns it into something you chose rather than something you bought. There are 6 other works by Carmen Delacroix available.
