Zara Moon broke exactly one thing in this picture, and she broke it as far from the singer’s mouth as she could get.
A woman mid-note, in costume, standing against a ground so dark it feels like the back of a stage. The note has already left her. It is a scarlet bird, and it is out of her hands.
Now look at her hem
The bottom of her dress is torn sideways into pixel blocks, the colour split into red and green ghosts, as though the picture forgot how to hold her together down there. Everything above it obeys paint. The face, the fabric, the light on her throat.
That placement is the joke with the serious centre. The voice escapes cleanly at the top. The body comes apart at the bottom, at the furthest point from the sound. Her voice got out. The rest of her didn’t.
Zara works to one rule per scene and obeys it completely, then glitches a single element so you know whose it is. As Ruby put it, the vivid scarlet bird against the velvet-dark ground makes the surreal believable.
What happens once it’s up
People walk over to it. Then they go quiet, then they ask, and you get to decide how much to explain. It reads as one clean red shape from across the room, and as an argument from three feet away.
Sizes and the plain numbers
A high quality print of a digital artwork on museum-grade archival matte paper, smooth and non-reflective, so a lamp or a window opposite gives you the bird back instead of a glare. Printed edge to edge with no white border, which means the dark ground runs right off the paper. It looks right pinned up bare, and it fits any frame you already have.
14×11 is $29. Most people take the 20×16, which is 50.8 x 40.6 cm and holds a wall on its own. 24×18 is $69 if the space is wide. Rolled in a tube, free shipping in the continental US, and made to order over about ten business days, so nobody on your street will have this one.
One honest thing
It is theatrical. Dark ground, one hot red, a woman coming apart at the knees. If you want art that soothes, this is not it. This one talks.
Take it home if it already has you. If not, go see the rest of Zara’s scenes and find the glitch in each one, or follow her and you will catch the next one first.
One is a piece. Two is a set. Three is a collection.
Almost nobody stops at one. A second work by the same hand turns a wall into a pairing. A third turns it into something you chose rather than something you bought. There are 6 other works by Zara Moon available.
