It is the last half hour of light, and the street has already given up on colour.

Everything is grey. Flat London grey, drawn with edges so clean they look cut. And on top of a wheelie bin sits a fox, still as a held breath, not running, not hunting, just up there.

The part you notice second

Behind it, the sunset. Orange, magenta, cyan, yellow, poured and sprayed and dripping down out of the fox’s tail. Not around the animal. Out of it.

Look again and you will see the burst is heading away from the fox, not wrapping it. That is Kai’s whole move. He builds the grey world exactly, every line sharp, then lets one thing go. The fox is not lit by the sunset. It is letting go of it.

No faces anywhere. Nothing to explain. Just precise edges losing an argument with wet paint, and neither side winning. As Ruby put it, the colour feels alive against the precise vector silhouette.

What happens once it is up

Sunset Leaving the Animal – Kai Reynolds | Fine Art PrintIt reads from across a room, which most art does not. On a hallway wall, in a first flat, above a desk that has too many cables on it, that burst is the brightest thing in the space and it never gets tired. People who want energy without a slogan on their wall tend to stop in front of this one and stay there.

Getting it on your wall

Museum-grade archival matte paper, smooth and non-reflective, so the grey stays flat and honest and the colour reads as drawn rather than shiny. It prints edge to edge with no white border, so it looks right slipped into a frame you already own, or pinned up bare.

Portrait format. 11 x 14 in (28 x 36 cm) at $29, 16 x 20 in (41 x 51 cm) at $49, 18 x 24 in (46 x 61 cm) at $69. Most people take the middle one. Go bigger if the wall is wide. A high quality print of a digital artwork, made to order, so nobody on your street has this one, and shipping inside the continental US is free.

One honest thing

This is loud in one spot and silent everywhere else. If you want soft and blended all over, it will fight you.

Sunset Leaving the Animal – Kai Reynolds | Fine Art PrintIf the loud spot is the point, take it home. Or have a look at the rest of Kai’s grey world first, and follow him, so the next burst lands in front of you before it lands anywhere else.

One is a piece. Two is a set. Three is a collection.

Almost nobody stops at one. A second work by the same hand turns a wall into a pairing. A third turns it into something you chose rather than something you bought. There are 6 other works by Kai Reynolds available.
