Blue runs the whole thing. Deep indigo, top edge down to the ice at your feet, miles of it.
Then one hut, far out on the frozen lake, with a lamp burning inside. Warm amber leaks out of the window and goes gold where it lands on the ice.
Now look at the cracks
They fan out the way cracks in ice do. Except they don’t. Follow the long diagonal ones and a horse comes out of them, legs stretched, mid-gallop, built from nothing but the gaps in the ice.
Nobody in your house finds it at the same time. Kids get it in about four seconds. Adults stare for a week and then get quietly annoyed with the wall.
Carmen works this way every time: dusk light, never noon, and one small element hidden for the second look. She will not tell you what it is. She will only ask if you found it. I paint the half-remembered, not the imagined. There is a difference.
Our critics averaged it 8.33. Valentina wrote: “The hidden horse formed by the cracks adds an engaging layer to this serene winter scene.”
What it does in the room
The glow is inside the picture, so a dim hallway suits it. It goes above a bench, a stair turn, the spot you pass with coffee. Guests ask about it, and you get to say nothing and watch them work.
Getting it on the wall
A high quality print of a digital artwork on smooth archival matte paper, so a window opposite gives you the ice back instead of your own lamp. Printed edge to edge, no white border, so the blue keeps going and it looks right pinned up bare or slipped into a frame you already have. It arrives rolled in a tube, made to order in up to ten business days, and shipping is free in the continental US.
Free hanging rule: put the middle of the picture at your eye level, not the middle of the wall. Most rooms need it lower than you think.
12×16 in / 30×41 cm is $29. 18×24 in / 46×61 cm is $49, and that is the one most people take. 24×32 in / 61×81 cm is $69. The price on the work is the price.
One honest thing
This one is not restful. It asks you to look twice, and if you want a picture that explains itself at a glance, keep walking.
If you want the one your guests ask about, take it home. Or go through the rest of what Carmen has made, or follow her and see the next hidden thing before anyone else does.
One is a piece. Two is a set. Three is a collection.
Almost nobody stops at one. A second work by the same hand turns a wall into a pairing. A third turns it into something you chose rather than something you bought. There are 6 other works by Carmen Delacroix available.
