Twins Before Thaw – Sofia Larsson | Fine Art Print

Four in the afternoon, the lamps not on yet, and the quietest thing in the house is the wall you used to ignore.

Green pours across the whole top of the picture, flowing like water, no glare in it. Below, a snowbank. Two birches standing together in the cold.

Count the trees again

There are two. Then you catch the still water under the bank, and there are four. Sofia put the reflection there so the pair has company, and so your eye gets to rest twice — once on the trunks, once lower down. That is the whole piece.

The horizon is the only hard line in the frame. Razor sharp where water meets that green. Everything above it flows; everything below it is exact. “I took four hundred photographs of this horizon. The painting has two lines in it.” Pale gold light sits at the water’s edge — warmth without heat — and almost nothing else is allowed in. The reduction is the work. Calm is not the absence of anything. It takes work.

What it asks of you

Nothing. It is a high quality print of a digital artwork on museum-grade archival matte paper, smooth and non-reflective, so a window or a lamp opposite gives you the sky back instead of a bright white patch. Printed edge to edge with no white border, which means the green runs all the way out — it looks right pinned up bare, and it slides straight into a frame you already have. It arrives rolled in a tube. Made to order in up to ten business days plus delivery, so nobody on your street has this one. Free shipping in the continental US.

Landscape. Most people take the middle size, 24 x 18 in (61 x 46 cm), at $49. The small is 16 x 12 in (41 x 30 cm) at $29, the large 32 x 24 in (81 x 61 cm) at $69. That is the price — no bidding, no number you can’t trace, nothing added later.

One honest thing

It averages 8.33 out of 10 with our critics, and Valentina’s note is the fair one: “The aurora’s flowing bands provide a sense of calm but don’t showcase Larsson’s unique artistic decisions.” This is for a bedroom, a bathroom, a room people want to breathe in. It is not for a busy wall or a bold interior, and not for anyone who wants a picture to do the talking.

If you want less on the wall and you mean it, take it home. Not sure yet — go through the rest of Sofia’s skies, or follow her and you’ll see the next horizon before anyone else does.

One is a piece. Two is a set. Three is a collection.

Almost nobody stops at one. A second work by the same hand turns a wall into a pairing. A third turns it into something you chose rather than something you bought. There are 6 other works by Sofia Larsson available.
