Four in the afternoon, and the loudest thing in your room is a woman who isn’t looking at you.

She’s sitting on a stoop with a book. Head tipped, shoulders soft, one of those poses you only fall into when you’ve stopped noticing the street. And above her, where her hair should end, the colour lets go – magenta, cobalt, gold, emerald, brushed loose like weather coming off her head.

Look at the rail

The bloom doesn’t stop at the iron. It pours through the brownstone railing, spilling out the other side, as if she’s reading so hard the colour can’t stay inside the fence. That’s the line you’ll end up saying out loud to someone. Once you’ve seen it, you can’t unsee it.

Naomi never shows you the face. She keeps her in profile, and the whole story moves into the body – the tipped head, the still hands. You don’t need features to know exactly how absorbed this woman is. “The blooms of color explode with life,” one critic wrote, and that’s it: the colour always grows out of the person, never decorates the edge.

What happens once it’s up

It gives a room nerve. First-apartment walls, a hallway you rush through, the spot above a daughter’s desk – it goes up and the room stops apologising. Guests read it as confidence. You’ll get asked.

Getting it on the wall

Canvas with a visible weave, stretched over solid wood an inch and a quarter deep, so the brushwork stands up instead of lying flat. It arrives ready to hang – one nail, two minutes, no frame to buy. Matte, so an afternoon window gives you the painting back and not your own lamp. Made to order, which means nobody on your street has this one, and free shipping in the continental US.

Most people take the 16×20 (41 x 51 cm), $149. Go 18×24 (46 x 61 cm) for a big wall, or 12×16 (30 x 41 cm) for a narrow one. A high quality print of a digital artwork – one plain price, no bidding.

One honest thing

This is loud. If you like walls that whisper in beige, she’ll fight you. If you want a room with a pulse, take her home – or go see the rest of Naomi’s people, and follow her so the next one lands in front of you first.
