Flat grey light, nothing in the sky doing anything. One of those afternoons where the whole city reads as a single colour.

Then the speaker stack goes off.

It is a Peckham rooftop, drawn in clean hard greys – edges, boxes, flat planes, all of it behaving. And out of the sound system comes orange, magenta, cyan and yellow, poured and sprayed, running down in drips with overspray feathering off the sides. Ruby called it “the clash of precise grey vectors against the explosive color burst.” That is it. Neither side wins.

Look where the two edges meet

Find a spot where soft spray sits right next to a razor-sharp line. Then find a drip sitting under a clean line. That tells you the order: the spray went down first, the line came after and did not flinch. Kai works that way every time – build the grey world exactly, then let one thing go. And the burst always leaves the subject. It never wraps around it like a border. As he puts it: a clean line is the loudest thing on a dirty wall.

What happens once it is up

Frequency Splitting Rooftop – Kai Reynolds | Fine Art PrintIn a hallway you clock the colour from the far end before you see what it is. Over a desk it does the opposite – the grey calms down and the burst stays loud. Guests ask what the orange is coming out of. You will explain the speakers more than once.

Sizes and the number

A high quality print of a digital artwork on museum-grade archival matte paper. Smooth and non-reflective, so the grey stays flat and honest and the colour reads as drawn, not shiny – no lamp glare bouncing back at you. Printed edge to edge, no white border, so the colour runs right off the paper.

Landscape: 16×12 in (41×30 cm) $29, 24×18 in (61×46 cm) $49, 32×24 in (81×61 cm) $69. Quick rule – measure your wall and go wider than you think; small prints on big walls look like an apology. It arrives rolled in a tube, ready for a frame you already own or fine pinned up bare. Made to order, up to ten business days plus delivery, free shipping in the continental US. The price on the work is the price.

One honest thing

This is loud. In a soft, traditional room with florals and warm wood it will pick a fight. In a first flat, a studio, a hallway with hard surfaces, it settles in and the wall looks empty without it.

Frequency Splitting Rooftop – Kai Reynolds | Fine Art PrintIf that is your place, take it home. If you want to see the rest of the grey world first, Kai’s other pieces are a click away – or follow him and the next burst shows up in your feed before it shows up anywhere else.

One is a piece. Two is a set. Three is a collection.

Almost nobody stops at one. A second work by the same hand turns a wall into a pairing. A third turns it into something you chose rather than something you bought. There are 6 other works by Kai Reynolds available.
