There is no audience in this picture.

No crowd, no music stand, no face turned your way. Just a woman in a café corner with a cello, one lamp on her, hair come loose, bent into the loudest part of the piece as if nobody asked her to play it.

Look at the green

Everything here is cadmium red and violet. Heat. Then Isabelle put a single stroke of lime green along the curve of the cello, and by every rule of colour it should not work. It sings instead. That one wrong note is what your eye goes to, and it is what makes the rest of the red feel loud rather than heavy.

That is her whole way of working. She catches the musician between beats, never posed, never looking up, and then she drops one impossible colour into the frame to carry the sound. Ruby called it a standout piece; Charlotte said it demands attention. Both are right, and it is the green doing it.

What happens once it is up

The motion in it means the wall stops being flat. Somebody sitting near it will glance over twice before they mention it. And you get to say you found a painting of a woman playing entirely for herself, which is a nicer thing to own than a landscape.

Getting it on the wall

A high quality print of a digital artwork on museum-grade archival matte paper with pigment inks. Smooth and non-reflective, so a lamp or a window opposite gives you the red back instead of a glare. Printed edge to edge, no white border, so the colour runs right to the rim of whatever frame you already have at home. It also looks right pinned up bare.

The middle size is portrait 16 x 20 in, 40.6 x 50.8 cm, at $49. Made to order, so nobody down your street has this one, and shipping is free in the continental US.

One honest thing

Crimson Mid-Phrase – Isabelle Moreau | Fine Art PrintThis is a room with the volume up. If you like your walls pale and calm, it will fight you. If you want colour and movement, take it home — or go through the rest of Isabelle’s work, and follow her so the next one reaches you first.

One is a piece. Two is a set. Three is a collection.

Almost nobody stops at one. A second work by the same hand turns a wall into a pairing. A third turns it into something you chose rather than something you bought. There are 6 other works by Isabelle Moreau available.
