Indigo runs the whole picture. Deep, heavy, piled along the bottom like everything you didn’t say this week.
Then something starts pushing up through it. Lighter marks, thick and fast, forcing a way out of the dark and taking the weight with them.
The mark that changes everything
There’s a violet sweep cutting across on the diagonal. First look, it feels like an interruption — a line that shouldn’t be there, going the wrong way against everything rising. Look again and it’s the hinge. It’s the only thing holding the upward push and the sunk indigo together. Take it out and the picture falls apart.
That double-read is why people come back to it. Anya works in one gesture and one answering mass, paint laid on fast with a loaded brush and a knife and then left completely alone. No blending, no tidying. Colours collide instead of agreeing. As one critic put it, it “commands attention with its explosive palette and dynamic strokes.”
What happens when it’s up
Conversation stops for a second. Someone walks in mid-sentence, sees it, and forgets what they were saying. That’s the whole point of a room with a pulse.
Ridges of standing paint show in the image, so light hitting it from the side gives you a different picture in the morning than at six in the evening. Same wall, different mood.
Getting it on your wall
Canvas, matte, an inch and a quarter deep, with the image running over the edges so it looks finished from any angle. It arrives stretched and ready to hang — one nail, done, no framer and no surprise bill. Matte means a window opposite gives you back the painting, not your own lamp.
Most people take the 24×18 landscape (61 x 46 cm), which sits well above a console or a bed. 16×12 is $129, 24×18 is $149, 32×24 is $229 — a high quality print of a digital work, made to order for you, with free shipping in the continental US. Nobody else on your street will have it.
One honest thing
This one is loud. If you want a room that soothes you, keep looking. If you want a wall that argues back, take it home — or go through the rest of Anya’s work, and follow her so you see the next one before it’s up.
