Naomi never shows you her face. The woman sits in profile, cut clean by a thick black outline, and that is all you get. You will still feel like you know her.

She is on the F train. Subway tile behind her, flat New York colour, the window doing the hard work. The light comes from behind her, so her shape goes deep and warm and her edges go bright.

Look at where the flowers go

Her hair does not stay on her head. It erupts – magenta, cobalt, gold, emerald – loose brushed blooms growing straight out of the figure. Then watch what they do at the window. They drift backward through the glass, into the tunnel, like the train is moving and the colour has not caught up yet.

That is the choice most people walk past. It turns a seated woman into speed. Naomi paints people as bursts of colour and refuses to make them pose for you, and the blooms always grow out of the person, never decorate the edge. Ruby called it “a standout piece full of life and vivid expression that will captivate any room.”

What happens once it is up

The room gets braver. Morning light picks up the gold, evening lamps push the cobalt forward, and the colour keeps standing up out of the canvas weave because it was painted thick. Guests ask who she is. You get to say nobody knows, and that is the point.

Getting it on your wall

Matte canvas, an inch and a quarter deep, image wrapping the edges – a high quality print of a digital artwork, stretched and ready to hang out of the box. One nail, two minutes, no frame to buy. Matte means a window opposite gives you the painting back, not your lamp.

Landscape. 14×11 in (36×28 cm) for a narrow spot, 20×16 in (51×41 cm) for most walls, 24×18 in (61×46 cm) if you want her to run the room. $129, $149, $229. Free shipping in the continental US, made to order, so nobody on your street has this one.

One honest thing

This is loud. If your home is all soft neutrals and you like it quiet, she will fight you.

If you want the wall to feel confident, take her home. Or go see what else Naomi has painted – better yet, follow her and you will catch the next one first.
