Anya Volkov
Anya paints big. Four metres big. She uses her whole body to paint — and you can see it in every stroke.
Her work isn’t calm, and it isn’t supposed to be. You hang an Anya because you want to feel something every time you walk past it.

Where Anya works.
An old factory outside Moscow. Ceilings high enough to hang a four-metre canvas from a steel beam. Paint on the floor. Cold northern light.
Get to know Anya.
What inspires her
Rothko at full scale, the bare geometry of old factory halls — she paints inside one — and Russian winter, ‘the biggest empty canvas there is.’
How the work gets made
She stretches her own four-metre canvases and hangs them from the beam. Painting is physical: ladders, buckets, both arms. There are no sketches. ‘A sketch is a promise you’ll break.’
Winter is her season. The cold keeps her moving, and the low light flattens the colour until only the honest ones survive.
What makes a Anya Volkov a Anya Volkov.
Four metres or nothing
Painted, not planned
Thick enough to touch
“I paint with my whole body or I don't paint.”

One Deliberate Incision: the relief of ruining it
A pale field interrupted exactly once - the line I needed most was the one that destroyed it.
Anya's next piece is coming.
Nobody scrolls past four metres of feeling. Her drops are events — and the room-sized presence survives even in a print.
