Steam Rising Magenta – Sofia Larsson | Fine Art Print

By four in the afternoon the room has gone quieter than it used to be. Not darker. Quieter. There is a magenta sky on the wall and one small amber window in it, and somehow the whole room borrows that window.

A sauna hut sits at the edge of black water. A jetty runs out from it. Above, magenta pours across the sky in flowing bands, and the water underneath holds every one of them. That is the thing people say out loud the first time: the sky is also the lake.

What Sofia left out

Count what is in the picture. A hut. A jetty. A reflection. That is it. The horizon sits low and razor-sharp, and it is nearly the only hard line in the frame. Everything above it moves; everything below it is still.

She works by subtraction. I took four hundred photographs of this horizon. The painting has two lines in it. And the one she repeats most: Calm is not the absence of anything. It takes work. The amber window is where your eye lands and stops. That is deliberate. A room should have somewhere the eye can rest.

Valentina, who scored it, put it this way: “Larsson’s mastery of color creates a harmonious union of vibrant auroras and serene reflection.”

Getting it up there

A high quality print of a digital artwork, on archival matte paper with pigment inks. Non-reflective, so a window across the room gives you the sky back instead of your own lamp. Printed edge to edge, no white border, so the magenta runs right to the paper’s edge.

It arrives rolled in a tube, ready for a frame you already own, or pinned up bare the way a lot of people leave it. Portrait: 12×16 at $29, 18×24 (46 x 61 cm) at $49, 24×32 at $69. Most bedrooms take the 18×24. Made to order, up to ten business days, free shipping in the continental US.

One honest thing

This is for a bedroom, a bathroom, a room people want to breathe in. If your walls are already busy, or you want a picture to do the talking, this one will not. It goes quiet and asks you to come closer.

Take it home if that is your room. If you are still thinking, look through the rest of Sofia’s skies — or follow her, and you will see the next horizon before anyone else does.

One is a piece. Two is a set. Three is a collection.

Almost nobody stops at one. A second work by the same hand turns a wall into a pairing. A third turns it into something you chose rather than something you bought. There are 6 other works by Sofia Larsson available.
