Sizes & materials

Stretched cotton canvas on a 38 mm wooden frame, matte surface. The image wraps the sides, so there is no white border at the edge, and it arrives ready to hang — no framing, no glass, no extra bill.

Sizes: 12 × 16 in · 16 × 20 in · 18 × 24 in.

Delivery

Made to order: your piece is printed after you buy it, which takes up to 10 business days and usually less, then travels in a rigid tube or a flat mailer.

Shipping is free everywhere in the continental United States, with no minimum. Alaska, Hawaii and the US territories are a flat $12. We also ship to 33 countries, including Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany and Australia, at a flat $29, shown at checkout. Downloads are available worldwide.

Returns

If a print arrives damaged, or is not what you ordered, tell us within 14 days and we will replace it or refund you in full. Because every print is made to order, we cannot accept change-of-mind returns on printed pieces.

Most pictures on a wall want you to look into them. This one looks back, flat and level, and waits for you to find the pane that is wrong.

A window grid, portrait, filling the whole frame. Every panel neutral, every edge clean enough to cut on. And one panel, sitting quietly in the order, is amber.

The part you only see once someone tells you

The grid never breaks. That amber panel is exactly the size it should be, exactly where it should be. Nothing moves out of line. The only thing that changed is the temperature, and yet your eye goes there every single time you walk past. As Ruby put it: “The amber panel asserts itself through temperature alone, a bold dissent in an otherwise uniform field.”

That is Alex Ward’s whole argument. He builds in flat, hard-edged colour with no brush marks and no texture, because the interval between the shapes is the subject. He does not disrupt the structure to get your attention. He changes one degree of warmth and lets the structure do it for him.

What happens once it is up

It settles a room instead of stirring it. Hallways, stairwells, the narrow bit of wall beside a doorway – anywhere tall and awkward that never quite worked. The amber reads as a decision, not a decoration, so it holds up next to grey, wood, white, brick, whatever you already own.

Getting it on the wall

Canvas over a solid wood frame, an inch and a quarter deep, image wrapped around the sides so the edges are finished. It arrives stretched and ready to hang – one nail, no frame, no glass, no extra bill. Matte, so a lamp or a window opposite gives you the amber back instead of a reflection.

Most people take the 16×20 in (41 x 51 cm) at $149, and it is preselected. Go 18×24 if the wall is wide, 12×16 if it is a tight run. Made to order, up to ten business days plus delivery, free shipping in the continental US – and nobody else on your street will have it.

One honest thing

There is no view here, no story, no weather. If you want a picture to get lost in, this is not that. If you like order, and one deliberate exception inside it, this is exactly that.
