Most pictures stay exactly where you hang them. This one keeps sliding.

The sky is poured, not drawn – green running into magenta into a cold blue, moving across the top three quarters of the frame like it has somewhere to be. Your eye goes with it. Then it drops and finds the small thing underneath: a ferry on flat water, one headland behind it, and the ferry again upside down in its own reflection.

Look at the windows

They are amber. Warm, small, lit. Every other colour in this painting is cold, and Sofia left that one row of little gold windows burning in the middle of it. That is somebody awake at four in the morning on the last crossing, with coffee, while the whole sky does something enormous and pays them no attention at all.

She works by subtraction. Pour the sky, let it move, then paint three things and stop. A ferry, a reflection, a headland – and a hard, exact horizon line that holds all that flow in place. Charlotte put it well: “the aurora’s vivid flow captures attention, making this piece a standout.”

What it is like to live with

It is a quiet picture that is doing a loud thing, which is a rare combination on a wall. Calm from across the room. In close, that pour keeps giving you something new to follow. People lean in to find the windows, and once you point them out they never unsee them.

Getting it up

Matte canvas, 1.25 inch deep, image wrapping the edges so there is nothing bare to look at from the side. It arrives stretched and ready to hang – one nail, two minutes, no frame to buy. Matte means a window across the room gives you the aurora back, not your ceiling light.

Middle size is 20 x 16 in (51 x 41 cm) at $149. Go 24 x 18 in if the wall is wide. Small at 14 x 11 in. A high quality print of a digital artwork, made to order, free shipping in the continental US – up to ten business days to make, then it ships.

One honest thing

It is mostly sky. If you want a busy picture with a lot to inventory, this is not it.

If the quiet is the point, take it home. Or spend ten minutes in the rest of Sofia’s work first – and follow her, so the next crossing lands in front of you before anyone else sees it.
