No road leads to it. No fence, no neighbour, no second light on anywhere.
Just a red cabin in snow, one window burning amber, and a sky coming apart above it in green and magenta and cold blue. Somebody is in there. That is all you get, and it is enough.
What Sofia took out
Look at the horizon. It is the only hard line in the whole picture — razor sharp, low, holding up an enormous amount of sky. Everything above it flows. Everything below it stops moving. That contrast is the piece.
Sofia Larsson works by subtraction. I took four hundred photographs of this horizon. The painting has two lines in it. The pale gold at the snow’s edge is her other signature: a January afternoon, warmth without heat. Almost nothing else is left in the frame, and the reduction is the work. As she puts it, calm is not the absence of anything. It takes work.
Charlotte, one of our critics, scored it and wrote: “Larsson’s work captivates with a luminous sky that dances above solitary stillness.” The piece averages 8.67 out of 10.
Once it is up
Hang it where you want to breathe — a bedroom wall, the end of a hallway, above the bath. Under a lamp at night that lit window does the same thing it does in the picture: it pulls your eye and holds it. Guests ask about the cabin first. Always the cabin.
A rule worth keeping: put the horizon line at your eye level, roughly 57 inches off the floor. The sky then reads as sky.
The plain facts
A high quality print of a digital artwork, on archival matte paper with pigment inks. Smooth and non-reflective, so a window opposite gives you the aurora back instead of your own ceiling light. Printed edge to edge with no white border — the colour runs right out to the paper’s edge, so it looks right pinned up bare or dropped into a frame you already own. It arrives rolled in a protective tube. Made to order, up to ten business days plus delivery, which is why nobody on your street will have this one. Free shipping within the continental US.
Portrait, 12 x 16 in (30 x 41 cm) at $29.00, 18 x 24 in (46 x 61 cm) at $49.00, 24 x 32 in (61 x 81 cm) at $69.00. Most people take the middle one. That is the price — no bidding, no estimate, nothing hidden.
One honest thing
It is quiet, and it means it. In a busy room, or a bold one, or on a wall where you want a picture to do the talking, it will get lost. If you want less on the wall and mean it, this is yours.
Take it home today, or see the rest of Sofia’s Nordlys Flow work first. Follow her and the next sky lands in front of you before anyone else.
One is a piece. Two is a set. Three is a collection.
Almost nobody stops at one. A second work by the same hand turns a wall into a pairing. A third turns it into something you chose rather than something you bought. There are 6 other works by Sofia Larsson available.
