The orange is in everything. It is in the sky, it is in the roofs, and it is underneath the dark water too, which is why the harbour never looks cold even at the end of the day.
Rovinj, last light. The bell tower stands over houses that go straight down into the sea, with no beach and no fuss in between. Every window has gone dark except one.
The window is the whole picture
Find it. It sits among dozens of dead ones and it is warmer than every other light in the painting, and once you have seen it you cannot stop seeing it. Valentina, who scored this an 8, put it like this: “The single lit window draws the eye with a warmth that stands out amid textured darkness.”
Marco works one way only. I do not own a brush. Everything here came off the knife. Look at the water and you will find a ridge where the knife lifted off, thick enough to cast its own small shadow under a lamp. Look where the orange sky meets the deep blue and you will find the unblended join – two colours that met once and were left alone. Nothing was smoothed after. You can see every decision I made. That is the whole point.
What happens once it is up
Hang it over a dining table or a sofa and the texture reads from the doorway. Guests ask about the window first, and about the town second. If you have stood on that waterfront, you will remember it slightly better than it was.
Matte canvas, an inch and a quarter deep, stretched on solid wood with the image wrapped round the edges – so it arrives ready to hang out of the box. One nail. No frame, no glass, no extra bill. Made to order in up to ten business days, and shipping inside the continental US is free.
Size and price, plainly
Most people take the 24 x 18 in (61 x 46 cm) at $149 – that is the price, no bidding, no strike-through. The 16 x 12 in (41 x 30 cm) is $129 if you are testing a narrow stretch of wall; the 32 x 24 in (81 x 61 cm) is $229 for a wall wider than your sofa. It is a high quality print of a digital artwork.
One honest thing
This is loud and warm and ridged. In a cool, minimal room that wants a smooth quiet surface, it will fight you. In a room with wood, lamps and warm light, it settles in fast.
If that is your room, take it home. If you are still thinking, look at the rest of Marco’s harbours – or follow him, and you will see the next lit window before anyone else does.
