The palm tree goes first. It leans hard left, like the wind got to it about four seconds ago, and your eye rides it all the way up before it comes back down to earth.
Down at the bottom sits a taqueria. The awning says CON TODO in fat brush letters, painted onto the awning itself, following its angle, the way real signage does. And the palm above it is Dodgers blue. Not green. Blue.
The bit that takes a second look
Nothing in this picture is straight. Chris could have stood that trunk upright and centred the shop under it, and it would have been fine and boring. Instead the whole thing tilts, so the picture is going somewhere. Look at the black line too – it wobbles. You can see the bristles in it. That is the point of the LOUD LINE style: one fat brush, drawn once, no fixing, colour sprayed in behind it with the overspray and the drips left where they landed.
