A football pitch drawn in flat, hard-edged greys. London grey on London grey. The figures are only silhouettes, turned away, no faces anywhere. Then one ball, mid-flight, splitting open into Lagos orange, magenta, cyan and yellow, with drips running off it and overspray hanging in the air around it.

Look at where the drip sits

There is a drip underneath a clean grey line. That means the spray went down first and the line was drawn over it afterwards. You can see the order of the work on the surface. Find the spot where a soft spray edge touches a razor-sharp vector edge and neither one gives way. That is the whole picture in half an inch.
