Skyline Igniting Her: the bloom catches fire

The hair lifts into the light, and the sky answers back.

I paint profiles because the likeness is in the line, not the eyes. A contour is immediate. You know her posture, her attention, the way she holds herself against that skyline, and you never need her name.

This one is a Bloom Profile, which means the hair and the air become the same thing. The boundary dissolves on purpose.

The sky did the colour work for me

Sunset over New York is orange, pink, amber, gold – all the warm tones I already use for skin. So when the bloom lifts off her head, it is not decoration. It is the light she is standing in, pulled into the painting.

Ruby called it “an energetic dialogue between the figure and the sky.” That is exactly right. The figure is not separate from the setting. She is part of it, and it moves through her.

I keep the ground flat. The rooftop, the skyline, the buildings – all rendered as clean shapes, no depth, no fade. That makes the bloom the only thing that moves, and it moves hard.

Rich deep skin tones, always

I do not lighten skin to make it easier. I mix deep browns, warm ochres, sienna, umber, and I layer them so the colour has weight. The face here is darker than the sky behind it, which means the bloom reads as light breaking from her, not washing over her.

Valentina noted the “vivid color blooms” and the “energetic neo-expressionism.” I will take that. The bloom is not neat. It should not be.

Charlotte said I “invoke optimism with a vibrant eruption of colors.” I do not invoke anything. I paint what I see when someone stands in good light and the air catches. If that reads as optimism, fine.

For a room that can take colour

This is a landscape print on museum-grade archival matte paper with pigmented archival inks, printed to order and shipped flat. It wants a wall with space around it and enough light to let the bloom glow.

It is for someone who likes a figure without needing a face, and who wants a painting that moves. It is not for a neutral room or anyone who needs the subject explained.
