The wall at the end of the hallway — the one you see from the kitchen. That is where this belongs. You catch it from thirty feet away while the kettle goes, and it stops you a little every time.
What is actually happening
One arc of deep indigo swinging up through the frame. Under it, burnt sienna, hot and flat, holding the whole bottom of the picture. Cold against warm, with no soft edge in between to make peace.
Now look where the arc meets the edge. It does not stop. It runs off the picture, because the arm kept moving past the canvas — what you have is a section of a bigger movement. And the arc never closes. It is the moment before the gesture, one mark, caught halfway. Your eye keeps trying to finish it for her.
Two more things once you know to look. A second colour breaks through the sienna field: that field was not blended shut, so the earlier decision is still visible under the later one. And one corner is barer than the rest, because Anya stopped when the emotional arc closed, not when the canvas was full.
She puts it flatly: scale is not showing off. Scale is the only honest size for this. Ruby, who scored it 8 out of 10, wrote: “The tension between the deep indigo arc and the warm burnt sienna below is an outstanding lesson in color contrast and spatial suspense.”
Getting it on the wall
A high quality print of a digital artwork, on archival matte paper with pigment inks. Matte means no glare — a lamp or a bright window opposite gives you the indigo back instead of a reflection of your own ceiling light. Printed edge to edge with no white border, so the colour runs right out to the sides and the arc keeps going.
It arrives rolled in a tube. Slide it into a frame you already have, or pin it up bare — it carries itself either way.
Portrait: 12 x 16 in (30 x 41 cm) is $29, 18 x 24 in (46 x 61 cm) is $49, 24 x 32 in (61 x 81 cm) is $69. The 18 x 24 is already selected and it is what most people take. A rule that helps: pick a print about two thirds the width of whatever sits under it. Made to order, up to ten business days plus delivery, so nobody on your street will have this one. Free shipping in the continental US, and the price on the work is the price — no bidding, no number you cannot trace.
One honest thing
It is loud. It will not stay in the background and it will not agree with your cushions. If you like a calm room, this argues with it all day.
If loud is what you came for, take it home. If you are still circling, look through the rest of what Anya has made — or follow her, and the next one reaches you first.
One is a piece. Two is a set. Three is a collection.
Almost nobody stops at one. A second work by the same hand turns a wall into a pairing. A third turns it into something you chose rather than something you bought. There are 6 other works by Anya Volkov available.
