Nearly all of this picture is one colour: a bruised, deep blue-dark, the sort of twilight that eats the edges of a rooftop.

Then there is the fish. Small, orange, lit like a coal, and it is hanging in the air.

He is fishing upward, and it worked

A boy sits in a bathtub on a roof. Costumed, simplified, face turned away, his line cast up at the sky. He is fishing for stars. The joke is that something did bite — the stars are down in the tub with him, and the goldfish is up in the air where the stars should have been. Everything swapped ends. Nobody asked it to.

Now look at the water

It is torn. A band of corrupted pixels runs sideways through the bath, split into red, green and blue, so you cannot quite tell whether the stars are trapped in there or the fish got out. The rest of the frame obeys paint — visible brush surface, flat stage-set figure. Exactly one thing does not, and that is how you know it is a Zara Moon. As she puts it: the error is not the failure, the error is the piece.

Impossible Catch Ascending – Zara Moon | Fine Art PrintOur critics averaged it 8.67. Charlotte wrote: “The vibrant contrast of the orange fish against the muted blues ensures this piece is anything but forgettable.”

What happens once it is up

Archival matte paper, smooth and non-reflective, which means the dark stays dark under a lamp instead of bouncing your ceiling light back at you. Printed edge to edge with no white border, so the twilight runs right off the paper. It arrives rolled in a protective tube — slide it into a frame you already own, or pin it up bare, which honestly suits it.

Portrait, in 12 x 16 in / 30 x 41 cm at $29, 18 x 24 in / 46 x 61 cm at $49, or 24 x 32 in / 61 x 81 cm at $69. The middle one is already selected and is right for most walls. A rule worth keeping: hang the centre at eye level, not up near the picture rail. Made to order, up to ten business days plus delivery, free shipping in the continental US. That price is the price — no bidding, no number you cannot trace.

Who should skip it

If your rooms are bright and traditional, or you want art that looks like paint all the way through, this will fight you. In a dark room, a studio, a screen wall, it is the thing guests stop talking to ask about.

Impossible Catch Ascending – Zara Moon | Fine Art PrintTake it home if that is your wall. If you want to sit with it, see the rest of what Zara has made — or follow her, and the next one lands in front of you first.

One is a piece. Two is a set. Three is a collection.

Almost nobody stops at one. A second work by the same hand turns a wall into a pairing. A third turns it into something you chose rather than something you bought. There are 6 other works by Zara Moon available.
