The wreath is the only proof anyone still comes here.
I am Sofia Larsson. I paint the Nordic coast in winter, when the light does things cities never see. What I chase is the moment the aurora arrives over still water and a low horizon – green and magenta streaming over pale gold and cold blue, usually with one or two sharp realist elements to anchor it. This one has a lighthouse at dusk, fresh snow on the keeper’s door, and the beam just lit.
The wreath was the last thing I added. It changed everything.

The lighthouse sits lower than you expect
I put the horizon where I always put it: low, so there is room for sky. The lighthouse is small, off to one side, barely taller than the snowbank. Most lighthouse paintings make them heroes. I wanted this one to feel like a thing the sea allows to stay.
The beam is lit but faint – dusk, not night yet. The water is going pewter. That colour happens for about twenty minutes on the Swedish coast in December, and then it is gone.

The aurora does not care about the lighthouse
Ruby called the aurora mesmerizing, and Valentina called it a hallmark of my mastery, which is kind but not what I was doing. The aurora is poured acrylic – green, magenta, a little cyan – and it moves the way it moves because I tipped the canvas and let gravity do the work. I do not paint the aurora. I pour it and then get out of the way.
What I do control is where it goes. Here, it streams across the top two-thirds of the canvas and never touches the lighthouse. The lighthouse has its own light. The aurora has better things to do.
The wreath is newer than the paint
I finished this piece in October. It sat on the wall for three weeks and felt complete. Then I was walking past it one morning and realized: that door is closed all winter, but someone put a wreath on it anyway.
So I added the wreath. One brushstroke of dark green, smaller than a thumbprint, on the keeper’s door. Now the lighthouse is not abandoned. It is tended. That is a different thing.
Keeper’s Door Lit is printed on cotton and polyester canvas with a matte coating, stretched on a renewable pine frame, with hanging hardware already on the back. It ships free within the continental United States and arrives ready to hang.
This is for a bedroom, a hallway, or anywhere you want the far north in winter – green and magenta over cold blue, a low horizon, and a great deal of sky. It is not for a small wall or a room that already has a loud piece. The aurora will not share.
Gallery-wrapped canvas, in 3 sizes — 12×16, 18×24, 24×32 in. Ships free within the continental US.
