A red plane is holding up a blue one, and blue is the heavier colour.
Two blocks that should be arguing over the frame. They are not. One is carrying the other.
The line that does all the work
One horizontal seam, where red stops and blue starts. That seam is the fulcrum. The blue is sized and placed so it reads as resting, not floating — set down on the red, not hung in the air. Cover the seam with your thumb and the whole picture goes slack.
Now the edge itself. No bleed, no halo, no wobble: it was taped and measured before any colour went down, never drawn freehand. And no gradient inside either block, because the colour was mixed once, in full, then laid down as a single decision. Every line is measured. Every proportion is a decision. That is Alex Ward’s way of working, in one sentence.
Where it lands in a room
Flat matte colour gives a lamp nothing to bounce off, so at night you get two clean planes and no hot spot. Over a desk, a console, a low sideboard, it makes a finished room look decided. Guests ask about the seam. A sizing rule, while you are here: measure the furniture underneath and take about two thirds of its width.
One nail and you are done
Canvas over a solid wood frame, an inch and a quarter deep, with the image running round the sides — no frame to buy, and it hangs straight from the box. Made to order in up to ten business days plus delivery, which is also why nobody on your street will have it. Shipping inside the continental US is free.
The 24 x 18 in (61 x 46 cm) comes preselected at $149. Smaller is 16 x 12 in (41 x 30 cm) at $129; larger is 32 x 24 in (61 x 45.7 cm) at $229. That is the price — a high quality print of a digital artwork, no auction, no number you cannot trace.
Who should skip it
It scored 7.33 with our critics. Ruby: “Precisely executed, the piece captures the intended structural chromatics style beautifully.” Valentina was cooler — it “achieves architectural proportion but doesn’t push the boundaries of the style.” Both fair. This is order, not drama. In a cluttered or sentimental room it will look stranded, and if you want to see the hand shake, this is the wrong wall.
If your room is finished and needs one exact thing, take it home. If you are still deciding, go through the rest of Alex’s work — or follow him, and the next one reaches you first.
