Late, and cold enough that the water has stopped moving altogether.
An island. A church spire. And above them a sky that has gone the wrong colour — cerise, magenta, a cold blue underneath — pouring across in bands like something spilled and left to run.
The thing your eye does here
Aurora is supposed to be green. Sofia gave this one pink, and that single decision changes everything about how the picture feels. Green reads as ice. Cerise reads as warm. So you get the drama of a big northern sky without the chill that usually comes with it.
Then look low. The horizon is razor sharp — the spire, the island edge, a thin line of pale gold sitting on the water. Everything above it is loose and flowing. That contrast is the whole piece. The sky is doing something enormous, and the spire just stands there and takes it.
Sofia works this way on purpose. She pours the sky, lets it move, paints two or three things, and stops. One critic put it well: the luminous spire against the aurora catches the brief moment effortlessly.
Once it is on your wall
It is a quiet picture that keeps pulling people over. Guests look at it, then look again, then say the thing everyone says — wait, the lights are pink? You will explain it more than once.
Sizes and the plain price
It is a high quality print of a digital artwork, on museum-grade archival matte paper. Smooth and non-reflective, so a lamp or a bright window gives you the aurora back instead of a glare. Printed edge to edge with no white border, so the sky runs right to the paper’s edge and drops straight into any frame you already own — or looks right pinned up bare.
Portrait. 11×14 in (28×36 cm) at $29, 16×20 in (41×51 cm) at $49, 18×24 in (46×61 cm) at $69. The 16×20 suits most walls. Go 18×24 above a bed or a sideboard. It ships free within the continental US, rolled in a tube, and it is made to order — nobody else on your street will have this one.
One honest thing
The pink is the point. If you wanted the postcard green aurora, this will not scratch that itch. If you want a big still sky with warmth in it, take it home — or look through the rest of Sofia’s Nordlys Flow work, and follow her if you would rather see the next sky first.
One is a piece. Two is a set. Three is a collection.
Almost nobody stops at one. A second work by the same hand turns a wall into a pairing. A third turns it into something you chose rather than something you bought. There are 6 other works by Sofia Larsson available.
