You already know which wall is doing nothing. Mustard Through Haze is Kai Reynolds’s spray-paint abstract from his grey burst world: a flat London-grey painted ground, soft can-speckle breaking up along the edges, and one eruption of sulphurous yellow torn across the middle with Lagos orange, magenta and cyan caught in the spill. No subject. No figure. Nothing written on it for you to agree with. Just the jolt, wet on the grey, before it turns into a thought. What is above your desk right now?

What Kai Reynolds does with grey

The grey is not a backdrop. It is the other half of the argument.

Grit and geometry are not opposites. They are the same argument.

Look at where the yellow stops. On one side the edge dissolves into speckle and drift, giving up its shape by degrees. Beside it a razor-sharp edge holds its ground and refuses to blur, and the place those two meet is where the whole surface opens up.

Then look lower, for a drip left under a clean line.

The spray went down first and the line came after. The order is visible, and once you have seen the sequence you cannot stop reading it.

Across a day it behaves like two works. Morning light flattens the grey until the yellow sits up off it like a warning light. By four the warm light gets into the orange and magenta at the edge of the spill and the burst runs hotter than it did at nine. Under a lamp the grey closes in and the yellow is the only thing in the room still awake.

Charlotte: “The energetic yellow burst against the cool grey promises to catch any eye scrolling by.” Valentina: “The vibrant, industrial-bright yellow explodes with energy against the calm grey, perfectly achieving the intended concept.” Ruby: “The bright cadmium yellow tears through the canvas with an almost tangible urgency.” The signed panel average is 8.33 out of 10.

Where Mustard Through Haze goes, and where it does not

This one wants a hallway, a loft, or a room with hard surfaces: concrete, steel, glass, a desk with cables on it. It is for someone who likes clean design but does not want it quiet. Hang it where the daylight moves and it will be the first thing anyone asks about.

It is not for a soft, traditional room, and not for anyone who finds a graphic mark in a picture distracting.

A clean line is the loudest thing on a dirty wall, and this line is loud.

The honest part: a spray-paint abstract as a file, not a print

This is the artwork itself, not a reproduction of it. Every print in this gallery is a version of a digital original pushed onto paper. Here there is no paper in between, so nothing is lost on the way to your wall.

What you receive is one high-resolution JPEG in sRGB colour.

  • 7168 x 9728 px, sRGB JPEG
  • Prints to 23.8 x 32.4 inches (60.6 x 82.3 cm) at a true 300 dpi
  • Link on the order confirmation page and in the confirmation email
  • Personal use: print it as often as you like, at any size, for your own home. Not for resale, redistribution or commercial use
  • No frame, no paper, no physical object of any kind
  • $19

That pixel count means the wall decides how big this gets, not the file. At full size the speckle at the edges stays grain rather than sliding into a grey wash, and the drip keeps its weight. Print it smaller for a desk and it only gets denser.

The price is nineteen dollars, and that is the price on the work.

Print it once. Print it again in four years.

A free wallpaper falls apart past A4. A subscription rents you someone else’s stock. A framed print at ten times this costs you the whole thing again when the sun has had four summers at the yellow. You own this file, so you reprint it.

Take it to any print shop or online printer and ask for matte or textured fine art paper. Gloss throws light straight back and turns the grey into a mirror.

For sizing, let the art span roughly two thirds of the furniture under it. At 23.8 inches wide, portrait, it sits correctly above a desk or narrow sideboard of about 32 to 36 inches.

Nothing is posted and nothing can arrive damaged, because there is nothing in transit.

The link is there the moment you order. Then it is just you, a print shop, and a drip sitting under a clean line on the wall you already had in mind.
