Downhill No Brakes: gravity first, questions later

A skateboard with eyes, a hill, and the only word you need painted straight down the asphalt.

A skateboard with eyes. A hill. The word VAMOS painted straight down the road in thick black brush. That is the whole piece and it does not need anything else.

I paint things that move fast because standing still on a wall in LA got boring about fifteen years ago. This one came from watching kids bomb Sunset with their phones out filming each other—no helmet, no plan, just go. The board gets cartoon eyes because if you are going that fast downhill you better be awake.

The word does the work

VAMOS is not decoration. It is the only word that fits when you are already moving and stopping is not the option you picked. Ruby called this piece kinetic and she is right—it moves before you do.

I letter every word by hand with a brush because a font would sit there polite and this word is the opposite of polite. It runs down the hill the same direction the board is going. You read it while you are already moving.

Spray first, line second

The colour field goes down fast with a spray can—orange and yellow bleeding into each other the way heat does on asphalt in August. Then the thick black cartoon line over the top, one take, no second pass.

Valentina said this piece bursts with motion. It does, because I do not sketch it first and I do not fix it after. The line is the speed.

LA taught me to move fast

I learned to make things fast because you do not get long on a wall. Every line I paint now comes from that—quick, sure, no apologising after. This board has already left the top of the hill by the time you are looking at it.

Charlotte called it irresistibly engaging and I will take that. A good piece does not wait for you to catch up.

For a hallway that can take a joke

This is for someone who wants a piece that moves and does not need the room to match it first. A hallway, a kitchen, anywhere with enough wall to let it go downhill.

Not for a quiet office or a room that already has too much going on. This one talks and it talks loud.
