I am Anya Volkov. I paint with my whole body or I do not paint. What I am chasing: the moment when the decision drops away and the arm just moves – no composition, no plan, only the physical fact of colour meeting canvas at scale.
This piece is that moment left visible.

The sienna ran past the edge
Burnt sienna over dusty rose, laid thick enough to cast a shadow. The stroke did not stop at the frame because the feeling did not stop at the frame.
Ruby called it monumental gestures – she is right, but monumental is not the goal. The goal is to record the arc of a feeling, and the arc was bigger than the canvas. So the mark runs off.
Scale is not showing off. Scale is the only honest size for this.

The impasto is as physical as the gesture
I work in explosive brushwork over daring colour fields, and I stop when the emotional arc closes. Valentina wrote about the impasto of burnt sienna against dusty rose capturing scale expressionism – what she means is you can see the paint from across the room.
That ridge is not decoration. It is the record of how hard the stroke landed. This piece is museum-grade archival matte paper with pigmented archival inks if you want the poster, or cotton-polyester canvas already stretched on radiata pine with the hardware on the back.
The canvas is finished when the feeling is finished. This one finished mid-stroke.
Charlotte is right about visually arresting
Charlotte wrote that the explosive brushwork creates a visually arresting experience. I agree, but arresting is a side effect, not the intention.
What arrests the eye is that nothing here was blended shut or softened for politeness. The dusty rose field is still visible under the sienna. The decision I made first is still in the room with the decision I made last.
The painting is the record of a feeling, and it ends when the feeling ends – not when the canvas is full, not when the composition balances.
For whom
A large wall in a room with some height, for someone who wants the piece to take over rather than sit politely. This is loud work at four-metre scale.
Not for: a small space, a calm room, or anyone who wants a picture to stay in the background.
Gallery-wrapped canvas, in 3 sizes — 16×12, 24×18, 32×24 in. Ships free within the continental US.
