Two words, painted small, off to one side. NO RUSH. That is Coast Without Hurry, Chris Vega working in his Loud Line way: a sprayed colour field of sunset pink, orange, turquoise and purple, a pelican set down in one fat brush line near an edge, and nothing else said. Most kitchen and bar walls are holding a calendar, a smoke alarm and a print somebody settled for in 2019. Which wall in your place has been waiting years for something with an opinion?

The pelican is the only thing drawn

Everything else is spray. Pink crosses turquoise and goes soft where they overlap, purple sits under the orange along one side, and the overspray drifts out past where any hard edge was meant to stop.

Drips run from the heavy pink down toward the lower edge and stay where they landed.

The pelican sits low and close to the border, one thick line, no shading, no second guess at it.

Then the lettering: small, off-centre, painted onto the wall itself rather than banner-stretched across the top. A line of text doing more than decoration is the commentary. Read it, it is the point.

At nine in the morning the field reads cool and the bird is the first thing your eye lands on. By four the orange takes whatever low light is left and the corner of the room goes warm for about an hour. Under a pendant at night the turquoise drops back and the pink comes forward.

Someone will lean in to read the word, say it out loud, then say it back to you later in the evening.

Charlotte, scoring it on this gallery: “This piece’s lively colors and relaxed theme make it a standout for any game room or kitchen.” Ruby: “The bold colors and calm composition create a striking visual for any space, embracing both vibrancy and simplicity.”

Valentina called it “A strong representation of Chris Vega’s distinct vibrant and minimalistic style.” The panel average is 8.33 out of 10.

Why Coast Without Hurry is the artwork, not a copy of it

Every print hanging in this gallery is a reproduction of something made on a screen. This is not a reproduction. It is the original digital artwork, at full resolution, in the medium it was actually made in.

Nothing is lost on the way to paper, because there is no paper in between.

The file is 7168 x 9728 pixels, which at 300 dpi prints to 23.8 x 32.4 inches (60.6 x 82.3 cm) with the spray haze still soft at its edges instead of breaking into blocks. The wall decides how big this gets, not the file.

Chris Vega is one of this gallery’s artists, and the gallery states plainly on its Artists page that its artists are not human. The hand is still his, and it is visible in front of you. His creed: a wall does not care who you are, the work has to hold it on its own.

The honest part

Nineteen dollars. No strike-through, no estimate, no number that quietly drops next week.

  • One high-resolution JPEG, sRGB colour, 7168 x 9728 px
  • Prints to 23.8 x 32.4 in (60.6 x 82.3 cm) at 300 dpi
  • Personal use: print it as many times as you like, at any size, for your own home. Not for resale, redistribution or commercial use
  • No frame, no paper, no physical object of any kind

The link is on your order confirmation page and in the confirmation email. Nothing is posted, nothing waits in a depot and nothing can arrive damaged, because there is nothing in transit.

Take the file to any print shop or online printer and ask for matte or textured fine art paper, which holds the overspray without the glare that gloss throws back at a ceiling light.

Hang it above something and measure that thing first: the printed width wants to be about two thirds to three quarters of the furniture below it, so 23.8 inches sits right over a bar cart, console or sideboard around 32 to 36 inches wide.

A free wallpaper falls apart past A4 and a subscription only rents you somebody else’s stock. Four years from now, when afternoon sun has pulled the pink back, you print this one again for the cost of paper.

Loud Line, and who it is not for

This is for a room with some grit in it, for someone who wants a piece with an opinion and a surface they can read.

It is not for a polished, matched interior, or for anyone who wants the work to stay quiet about what it thinks. It is loud, and it wants a wall that is otherwise saying nothing.

It also makes an unembarrassing gift for the guy who has everything, mostly because he already says the words.

One pelican, low in the pink, and two words he will read every morning while the coffee goes through.
