Volkov does not make small paintings, and she is not pricing this like one.
The ask is direct
This is full-scale Volkov: four metres of green forced against magenta until the impasto starts to sing on its own terms. That scale is the work. Smaller and it reads as decoration. At size it reads as a decision someone had to make with their whole arm.
The price reflects that. Volkov is not interested in the decorative market, and if you want in at the small tier you are getting a postcard of the gesture, not the gesture itself. Buy large or do not buy at all.

What it does: it holds two positions at full volume and lets neither collapse. Green does not go lime to make peace. Magenta does not go pink. They stay structural and the painting works because Volkov can hold that tension across four metres without it turning into noise.
