Four in the afternoon, and the room has gone quiet the way rooms do. Then you walk past this, and something in it is still moving.
A castanet player, caught between two claps. Her arm is up. The clap has already happened and the next one hasn’t, and Isabelle Moreau decided to stop time in the gap.
Look at the shadow
It is green. Not shadow-green, not a trick of the light – a flat, loud, impossible green that no physics allows. That is the whole painting. She let reality break so the colour could be right instead of correct. Once you have seen it you cannot unsee it, and neither can anyone standing in your kitchen.
Her face is turned away. She is not posing for you. Isabelle says it plainly: I paint the ten seconds before they notice you are there. That is why the raised arm carries the picture – you are watching rhythm, not a portrait.
Valentina, who scored it, wrote: “The vibrant Fauve colors and dynamic movement capture a moment of Mediterranean light and grace.”
What it is like to live with
No pressure, no bidding, no number nobody can trace. A high quality canvas print of a digital artwork, made to order, so it is not sitting in a warehouse and nobody on your street will have it.
Matte surface, so a window opposite gives you the painting back and not your own lamp. Poly-cotton canvas with a visible weave, which makes the colour read as paint rather than poster. Image wraps the edges, stretched on solid wood an inch and a quarter deep – it arrives ready to hang. One nail, done, no framer and no bill you didn’t plan for.
Sizes and the price
Portrait 12 x 16 in (30 x 41 cm) at $129, 18 x 24 in (46 x 61 cm) at $149, 24 x 32 in (61 x 81 cm) at $229. A rule worth keeping: measure the furniture, not the wall – the picture should be about two thirds the width of whatever sits under it. Up to ten business days to make, free shipping in the continental US.
One honest thing
It is loud. In a cool, minimal, corporate room it will look like a guest who arrived too early. In a kitchen, a bedroom, a reading corner with wood and books and colour, it settles in fast.
If that sounds like your wall, take it home. If you want to sit with it, look at the rest of what Isabelle has made – or follow her, and you will see the next one before anyone else does.
