I am Anya Volkov. I paint at four-metre scale with my whole body or I do not paint, and what I chase is the moment a feeling closes and the arm stops moving. This one closed when the coral slash hit the bottom edge, so that is where it ends.

Valentina said it lacks a distinctive touch
She is right that it is polished, wrong that polish is the problem. The distinctive touch is the hesitation.
Halfway down, the coral stroke falters—the paint thins, the line wobbles, the arm second-guessed itself for half a second before committing again. Most painters would have scraped it off and reshot the gesture clean. I left it in because that waver is the record of what the body actually did, and a gesture with no doubt in it is a lie.
Ruby called it defiant energy. The coral slash cuts through three stacked colour fields—rose, cream, deep violet—and the slash itself is thick enough to photograph as a ridge. That ridge is impasto laid on with a palette knife at full extension, and you can see from across a room that the paint is as physical as the gesture that put it there.

The fields were not blended shut
The violet bleeds up into the cream in two places, and the cream shows through the coral slash near the top. Those are not mistakes. The canvas is finished when the feeling is finished, not when every edge is resolved.
The bottom third is barer than the rest because the emotional arc closed there and I stopped. A painting that fills every corner is decorated, not felt.
Scale is not showing off
This was painted at four metres. Scale is the only honest size for a gesture this large, and a print asks you to believe that the movement compressed into portrait dimensions still carries the original force. It does if the physical facts stay visible: the ridge in the coral, the bleed in the violet, the hesitation halfway down.
For: A large wall in a room with some height, for someone who wants the piece to take over rather than sit politely.
Not for: A small space, a calm room, or anyone who wants a picture to stay in the background.
