There is no house in this picture. No car, no gate, no roof waiting at the top of the hill.

The thing you will point out to people
One cypress. Dark, vertical, standing in the middle of all that warmth like it has been there longer than the road has. Everything else in the painting lies down — the hills run sideways, the track runs diagonally — and that one tree refuses. It is the wrong colour in the right place. Your eye goes to it, leaves, and comes back.
Marco works with a knife, never a brush, and he leaves every stroke where it landed. Ridges of terracotta and ochre standing proud, knife drag, lifted edges, nothing blended smooth. As he puts it: you can see every decision he made, and that is the whole point.
