The sun has about forty minutes left, and the rooftops know it.
Terracotta tiles, still hot from the whole day, giving it back slowly. Ochre walls. Olive and cypress green pushed in at the edges where the heat is already gone.
What a quick look misses
The paint stands up off the surface. Marco loads it with a knife and refuses to blend it, so every ridge on those roofs throws a tiny shadow of its own. One critic called it paint thick enough to cast its own shadows, and that is the plain truth of it.
Which means the picture is never quite finished with you. Move a lamp, open a curtain, and the light rakes across those ridges from a new angle. The roofs brighten. The greens sink back. Nothing on the wall has changed and the whole thing looks different.
That is Marco’s entire way of working. No brush. Knife-loaded earth colour, every decision left visible, and one hour of low golden light he keeps chasing. He says you can see every choice he made, and that is the point.

Northern rooms are cold in a way heating does not fix. This is the fix. It reads like someone left the oven on and the windows open at the same time.
