Most pictures want something from you. They want you to look, to work out what is happening, to be impressed.

Count what is in the frame. An island, water, sky. Nothing else. No boat on the horizon to explain the island, no cloud shaped like something, no weather coming. Sofia stops adding at two elements and then holds her nerve.
The part people miss is the horizon. She pushed it low, right down, so the sky takes almost the whole picture. That is the reason the island feels like the beginning of something rather than the end of it. Light coming up, not going down. Pale gold through cold air, no hard edge anywhere except the one place land meets sky.
